Overview
Shaheed Dweep, formerly Neil Island, is the smaller and calmer of the two main beach islands, and it feels far more local and unhurried than its larger neighbour. Distances between its beaches are short, the settlement is village-like, and the whole island can be covered easily by cycle or auto in a single day. Farmland and small vegetable plots line the roads inland, a reminder that this is still a working island.
Many travellers reach it on the quick hop from Havelock rather than doubling back through Port Blair, which makes it a natural last beach stop before the flight home. It suits a night or two of winding down, snorkelling in calm shallows, walking out to the Natural Bridge at low tide, and catching a sunset at Laxmanpur before heading onward. The relaxed rhythm here is exactly the counterpoint most travellers want after Havelock.

How to reach
Short ferry from Havelock, or direct sailings from Port Blair. The Havelock to Neil hop saves backtracking.
Good to know
- Distances are small here, cycles and autos cover the whole island easily in an afternoon.
- Check low-tide timing carefully if you want to see the Natural Bridge properly exposed.
- A single full day is enough to see the main beaches here without feeling rushed.
