Overview
Mayabunder is a quiet coastal town in the northern part of the Andaman road network, known for its forests, beaches, and access to lesser known island surroundings that most visitors never actually see for themselves. Tourism infrastructure here stays basic compared with Havelock or Port Blair.
It sits roughly midway between Rangat and Diglipur, so most travellers pass through it as a stop rather than a final destination, though it rewards those who slow down here in their own right. Karmatang Beach, a long stretch of sand a short drive from town, is a significant turtle nesting site and draws visitors specifically during the nesting season each year. Avis Island and the wider Interview Island area lie nearby too, appealing mainly to travellers who care more about nature and wildlife than polished sightseeing or resort-style comfort along the way.
